George Hurst & Sons Limited are recognised as an Investor in People. We are firmly committed to equality and we have an excellent track record in developing people towards full apprenticeships, relation qualifications and long term employment.

Many building companies sub-let their work to overcome the problems caused by fluctuations in work load but at George Hurst & Sons we believe that a permanent, directly employed workforce is the key to delivering high quality buildings. We employ skilled craftsmen, including joiners, bricklayers and plumbers, as well as semi-skilled and unskilled workers and it is only by investing in our people over the years that we are able to stamp our brand of quality on the building work we produce.

In our view it is also vital that when people join us they are happy in their work and so stay with us for many years. This makes it possible to invest time and money in training our people through development programmes, tool-box talks and effective management in the workplace.

Turnover has grown at a rapid pace over the past five years and so many new people have joined us during recent times. However, even after taking this into account, the average length of service per employee is seven and a half years, spread over a current workforce of just over eighty people.
